The history of Domaine Bailly Reverdy

The estate is located in the village of Bué, 5 km from Sancerre, renowned for its large number of winegrowers (around 30 families) and the diversity of its terroirs. From the outset, the BAILLY family has chosen to harvest its vines by hand.

1952

16 April 1952

Bernard BAILLY marries Marie-Thérèse REVERDY.
This alliance gave birth to the current name of Domaine BAILLY-REVERDY.

1956

1956

Bernard decided to bottle the wines at the estate and developed their distribution. A commitment to excellence and meticulous selection have shaped the estate's identity and the quality of its wines.
This approach was underpinned by a requirement (which is still the same today): irreproachable wine quality. With this in mind, the best vine plants are selected in order to reproduce them by grafting (an operation carried out on the estate at the time).
This selection and the choice of rootstocks best suited to each terroir allow the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir to develop their aromas to the full while respecting the taste of the terroir. The efforts made in viticulture are extended to the cellar.

1979

1979

Jean François joined his father, Bernard at the family estate where he focused on further developing export sales.

1988

1988

Domaine BAILLY-REVERDY expanded with the acquisition of Domaine Roger Neveu in Chavignol. Its hillsides, with evocative names such as the prestigious Les Monts Damnés, Les Culs de Beaujeu, and La Côte d'Amigny, further enriched the estate's vineyard heritage.

1991

1991

After studying oenology in Bordeaux, it was Franck, Bernard’s youngest son, who in turn joined the estate. His strong commitment to the environment enabled the domaine to take another step forward in respecting and preserving the terroir.

Since 1995

The estate stopped using herbicides and adopted environmentally respectful practices. Environmental commitment became a core value.

Jean-François passed away, and in his memory, a special cuvée was created :' "Le Point d'Orgue". From the prestigious parcel of Chêne Marchand, where the "caillottes" (limestone soils) reign supreme a renowned terroir with a long-established reputation.

Aurélien, Jean François's son, set up his own business. After studying in Beaune and Montpellier, he went on to develop his experience in New Zealand and the USA, before returning to the estate where he is in charge of the vineyards.

The Bailly-Reverdy estate now spans both banks of the Loire. Franck and Aurélien grow AOC Pouilly-Fumé vines in the wine-growing village of Les Loges and on the Champs de Cri, hillsides overlooking the Loire.
